Dr. Larry W. Waterman
|Dr. Larry Waterman has been a registered psychologist since 1980. Originally from Alberta, Dr. Waterman grew up in Ontario where he practiced psychology from 1980 until 1986. In 1986 Dr. Waterman moved to Quesnel, BC where he worked for the Quesnel Mental Health Association for a year before going into private practice. A year later, he accepted the position of Child and Youth Coordinator at the Nanaimo Mental Health Centre and in late 1989, started a private practice as Waterman & Associates, which has continued since that time.
Throughout the years, a number of psychologists, social workers and clinical counselors have worked at Waterman & Associates and many continue to practice within the Nanaimo area. Dr. Waterman is particularly proud of promoting and helping to bring to the Nanaimo community new and unique psychological services such as Clinical Hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
As a former two-term Chair of the committee that monitors ethical complaints for the College of Psychologist of BC, Dr. Waterman is well aware of the importance of having a highly ethical, professional and responsible practice. In addition to his other areas of expertise, Dr. Waterman has studied Parent/Child Alienation and in 2006, in cooperation with the Nanaimo Men’s Resource Centre, helped produce an informative CD regarding this topic. As of July 2017, Dr. Waterman has limited his practice in psychology to Custody and Access Assessments, Views of the Child Assessments, and Parenting Capacity Assessments. He has been accepted as an “Expert Witness” by both the Provincial and Supreme Courts and has been called upon to testify in many contentious cases in both levels of Family Court.
